FIXED WING COURSE INFORMATION
The Remote Pilot License Fixed-wing course is an approved Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) course which consists of theory, practical training and a skills test. The duration of the course depends on a candidate’s aviation experience, skills and flying abilities.
Remote Pilot License theory training:
ProWings training offers online remote Pilots license theory training for aviation license holders and non-license holders. The online theory training for aviation license holders (PPL,CPL,ATPL Holders) consists of two days theory training and the third day is used for writing the final RPL theory examination. Theory training for non-license holders (Candidate’s with no aviation experience) consists of five days theory training and the sixth day is used for writing the final RPL theory examination.
At the end of each training session candidates will be required to complete an online mock examination for each RPL subject presented during the training session. The mock examinations assist in preparing the candidate for the final RPL examination. Once a candidate has completed the theory training and passed the final RPL examination, the candidate will then move on to practical RPL training.
Remote Pilot License practical training:
Practical flight training is conducted at an approved Civil Aviation (CAA) field in Hekpoort, Gauteng. Practical training duration varies from candidate to candidate and ultimately depends on Weather, candidate experience and flying abilities. During the practical training a ProWings instructor will complete a series of Fixed-wing exercises with a candidate which include map reading, pre- and onsite planning, drone assembly and drone flying. Once deemed competent on the different exercises an evaluation flight will be conducted by a senior instructor in order to issue the candidate with a letter of recommendation (LOR) which is required for the candidate’s RPL skills test.
Remote Pilot License skills test:
The skills test is conducted by an approved Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) designated RPAS examiner (DRE). The skills test consists of a ground evaluation and practical flying test. During the ground evaluation the designated RPAS examiner will test a candidate’s theoretical RPL knowledge and during the practical flying test a candidate’s flying abilities will tested. A candidate needs to successfully complete both in order to be issued with a remote pilot’s license.
