What is an RPC?
A Remote Pilot Certificate is an approved aviation certificate issued by the South-African civil aviation authority (SACAA) which allows a person to pilot a remotely piloted aircraft (Unmanned aircraft).
DURATION
Full Course –
- Theory – 5 Days
- Course Completion – 3-4 Weeks (Estimated based on the completion of all requirements, such as: Restricted Radio, Medical, ELP, Flight Training and Submission to SACAA)
Accelerated Course – (Recommended for Licensed Pilots)
- Theory – 2 Days
- Course Completion – 2-3 Weeks (Estimated based on the completion of all requirements, such as: Restricted Radio, Medical, ELP, Flight Training and Submission to SACAA)
FLIGHT HOURS
3 Hours (Estimated)
IMPORTANT:
You must have a Pilots license, such as a PPL/CPL to do the Accelerated Course.
If you do not hold a Pilots license, you must enroll for the Full Course. However, holders of a Pilots License can do the Full Course as well (The theory includes all subjects: Airlaw, Ops Procedures, UAS General, Principles of Flight, Human Factors, Navigation, Meteorology, Flight Planning and Navigation).
The Accelerated Course theory only includes: Airlaw, Ops Procedures and UAS General, as you are given recognition of prior learning for those subjects already during the completion of your pilots license.
MULTI-ROTOR COURSE INFORMATION
The Multi-Rotor Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) course is an approved South-African civil aviation authority (SACAA) course which consists of theory, flight training and a skills test. The duration of the course depends on a candidate’s aviation experience, skills and flying abilities.
Remote Pilot Certificate theory training:
ProWings training offers online remote pilot certificate theory training for aviation license holders and non-license holders. The online theory training for aviation license holders (PPL,CPL,ATPL Holders) consists of two days theory training and the third day is used for writing the final RPC theory examination. Theory training for non-license holders (Candidate’s with no aviation experience) consists of five days theory training and the sixth day is used for writing the final RPC theory examination.
At the end of each training session candidates will be required to complete an online mock examination for each RPC subject presented during the training session. The mock examinations assist in preparing the candidate for the final RPC examination. Once a candidate has completed the theory training and passed the final RPC examination, the candidate will then move on to flight training.
Remote Pilot Certificate flight training:
Flight training is conducted at an approved South-African civil aviation (SACAA) field in Hekpoort, Gauteng. The duration varies from candidate to candidate and ultimately depends on Weather, candidate experience and flying abilities. During the flight training a ProWings instructor will complete a series of multi-rotor exercises with a candidate which include map reading, pre- and onsite planning, drone assembly and drone flying. Once deemed competent on the different exercises an evaluation flight will be conducted by a senior instructor in order to issue the candidate with a letter of recommendation (LOR) which is required for the candidate’s RPC skills test.
Remote Pilot Certificate skills test:
The skills test is conducted by an approved South-African civil aviation authority (SACAA) designated examiner (DRE). The skills test has two parts, a ground evaluation and practical flying part. During the ground evaluation the designated examiner will test a candidate’s theoretical RPC knowledge and during the practical flying a candidate’s flying abilities will be tested. A candidate needs to successfully complete both in order to be issued with a remote pilot certificate.
